BIOGRAPHY

I graduated in Agrarian Sciences from the University of Florence with a doctoral thesis on grape varieties which were at risk of disappearing in Tuscany; I then did post-graduate work in Oenology at the University of Bordeaux in France and the University of Calfirnia at Davis in the USA.
I began to work as assistant winemaker for the Frescobaldi group as soon as I graduated in 1986 and subsequently became the technical director of the Col d’Orcia estate in Montalcino; I then joined the Antinori firm, where I operated as Director of Oenology until the year 1996.
During these years, I also enlarged my professional knowledge and expertise with working experiences in various production contexts such as California: with the Robert Mondavi winery, the Au Bon Climat Winery, and the  Qupé Winery.
In 1996 I founded the Matura Group, a global consulting firm, with my colleague Attilio Pagli.
I am a consultant,  and at times also producer, in many of the major wine-producing countries of the world: Italy, Argentina, Chile, California, South Africa, Portugal, Canada, Uruguay, Australia, and  Armenia.
