BIOGRAPHY

I graduated from the University of Pisa with a doctoral thesis on the ripening of the grapes and afterwards did post-graduate work at the University of Montepellier in France; by nowI have been working in the vineyards as an agronomist for almost twenty years. I have also worked on many important projects in the province of Livorno and in the Tuscan Maremma, particularly in and around  the town of  Bolgheri where I was born and still live and where I have grown as a professional.
From 2001 to 2006 I worked with Federico Curtaz, from whom I learned to understand the importance of every single detail in the vineyards and to give the necessary attention to every aspect of  the agronomical work , on a 360° basis.
My work can be divided into three principal areas of responsibility:

  • planningn and programming
  • organizing
  • management

The work of the agronomist must be based in the vineyard and must adapt itself to the program of the firm, one aimed at growing grapes capable of giving important wines, ones which reflect their territory of origin and the aims of the individual entrepreneur.

To achieve these objectives, a unitary project is necessary, one which involves and takes into account the oenologist, the territory, the market, and sales and marketing; no aspect of the chain can be neglected in as in modern viticulture, as it is always the details which count.
I am fortunate enough to have worked in many different areas in Italy and abroad, this has been a very enriching experience both personally and professionally, and I believe that wine is the true expression of a territory, given that every indiividual spot where the vine is cultivated gives a different personality, different  nuances, a different character, to wines which, made from the same grapes, are often quite distinctive from.
My profession allows and obliges me to work both with native and International grape varieties and to also rediscover old local varieties, neglected and forgotten both in Italy and abroad; the study of all of their agronomical and oenological aspects is a fascinating one: I believe in a viticulture which respects the environment and carefully studies all of the techniques used in integrated agriculture, organic agriculture, and bio-dynamic agriculture.
